What is a mobile workforce?

A mobile workforce is one in which employees work from places other than the company’s place of business (Kosinski, Clark, & Scapicchio, 2026). This trend has become more common since the COVID-19 pandemic. The mobile workforce allows employees to work more productively while outside the office.

This article is quite interesting as it relays a viewpoint that has been fostered by many people in different industries. The idea of being mobile while working is a concept that allows employees to skip the commute, deal with family obligations, and work from places outside the normal workforce setting. I believe that the mobile workforce is a step forward in letting employees have the option of working from home or in some other convenient place.

Working mobile has given many people the opportunity to work from places other than their company or organization. This phenomenon has become more prevalent since the pandemic and continues to have a place in the global workforce. Software apps and other types of apps make the mobile workforce almost as good as the typical workplace (Kosinski, Clark, & Scapicchio, 2026). Having a mobile workforce enables organizations to create optimal efficiency despite geographical location (Workforce Management, 2025).

Although the mobile workforce has grown in popularity with multiple types of businesses, not all businesses can work remotely effectively. Nurses and doctors in a hospital will often find it difficult to interact with their patients, as necessary. In fact, nurses often feel a disconnect with their patients and the technology is lacking in these types of relationships between nurses and their patients (Speroni, 2023). Also, challenges in nursing with working remotely arise because of nurses not keeping up with digital technology (Booth, et al., 2021). In the future, nurses as well as other types of positions need to ensure that the appropriate technology is available and used to enhance an effective mobile workforce.
